1. Their cleverness, intricacy, and pure brilliance moved me.  More so than The Hobbit/LOTR series which was my favorite series since I was in 5th grade.  GoT is now my favorite.

I actually find his books somewhat tedious.  Now before everyone and their mother freaks out, let me explain.  I enjoy the books.  I've read them all multiple times, and will likely read them again.  But he needs to figure out when it is, and when it isn't, worth continuing the book instead of making it into two parts.  Nearly every single one of the installments has 2-3 spots that are perfect for splitting the novel - cliffhanger, surprised, action, you name it.  However, GRRM looks at it and 'lolnope gonna make this 800 pages'.  I don't mind long books - I just get tired of feeling like I'm at the end of a book, and only being a quarter of the way through.

Also sometimes he throws random shit in there that is unimportant.  Or leaves out super important shit that we only kind of find out about via conversations between characters

Haven't seen them mentioned yet, but the discworld series by Terry Pratchett is phenomenal (as is everything else he's ever written or touched). He's also got a fantastic book with Neil Gaimen called "Good Omens" that I simply cannot recommend enough.

discworld is fascinating, along with the whole fleet of planets saga

  2. How has the very hungry caterpillar not been mentioned yet

because Goodnight Moon is the best childrens book ever, and the only one worth reading

  3. Heheh, yeeeeah. I kinda looked around for what I was interested in reading about as well as some recommendations of some good books. Reading book summaries helped too. It narrowed my list a lot so far.

If you played KOTOR or SWTOR, you could try Star Wars: Revan. I just read Star Wars: Deceived and Star Wars: Annihilation and they were decent. I hear Star Wars Republic Commando series is pretty good too.

Yeah I've read those (I have all EU books/comics as of a month or two ago, I need to download the newest ones though).  I just don't have the effort to get into the whole EU, especially because it is essentially the same story cycled over repeatedly

  4. I guess I'm kind of avid reader. I read mostly anything but I like mostly sci-fi. Been reading Star Wars books a lot lately. Finished two of the Star Wars Old Republic books this week, they were aight. When I get my fill of that, I plan on reading Game of Thrones. <:

I decided that I would read all of the Star Wars EU books/comics the other day.  Then I discovered how many there are and went back to wasting my life online

  5. Boy are you in for a fucking adventure.  I've had two friends tell me all about these and compare their epicness to Game of Thrones.  I really want to read them but the sheer devotion of 14 "A Dance With Dragons" sized books might be more than I can handle

IMO the first book is possibly the best book in the series.  That or the last book.  Just read the first one and if you like it you'll be hooked.  Besides, it isn't like you have to read them all in one sitting

  6. All I know is that books are expensive.
But seriously, I recommend A Separate Peace. Even though I don't really read for pleasure any more, this book was definitely a great read when I did.
how2torrent? srsly

Also, I've started rereading The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss, The Safehold Series by David Weber and the Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan.  These are all great stories by fantastic author.

Kingkiller Chronicles are the memoirs of a man who basically became the 'storytale hero/antihero' of his world - he's a genius who discovers all sorts of magic, etc etc.  It is unfinished, and a lot of people dislike the second book (I don't, I love it).  The first one is definitely worth reading, and you can decide if you want to go on from there.  A word of warning, there is less action than you might expect.

Safehold is a series of stories about a new world that humans are living on after the human race was nearly wiped out by an alien race.  This new planet (Safehold) is forbidden to use any technology that is not driven by wind, water or living things (like people/horses) by a corrupt church.  One person from the previous human era is still alive in the form of a robot thingy (idk how to describe it) who seeks to defeat the church and bring humanity back into the technological era.  The first three books are all fantastic, and the rest are good (although he tends to get a little wordy and self indulgent at times).  Definitely worth at least checking out.

Lastly, the Wheel of Time Series.  This is one of the if not the best fantasy series of all time.  There are like 14 books in the series, with the first and last 4 best the best and the rest being pretty damn good.  The final book is honestly the best ending to a series I have ever read.  I recommend these books more strongly than almost any other book I can think of off the top of my head.

A word of warning, all of these books are long. Really long. Like 400 pages minimum for most of them, and don't be surprised if they pass 1000.

  7. are you referring to The Night Angel or The Maze Runner?

EDIT: because either way, no i haven't

the night angel.  You should read the other stuff by that author, its all really good.

All time favorite book - Ender's Game (and the series). The movie did not do it justice.

    agreed.

  8. Most recent book I've read was the Night Angel trilogy. It was the whole trilogy slapped into one book, and it was damn good. And yeah, I generally like sci-fi/fantasy as well. Night Angel was a fantasy book with assassins and magic and shit, it was really good. Another series I really like was The Maze Runner, which is more sci-fi.

oh shit I forgot about those, got it for christmas and just finished it the other day.

have you read any of his other stuff?

  9. I recently read two very good books.

The first is called The Psychopath Inside - a story about a famous neuroscientist who discovered that he had the brain activity of a psychopath.  It's a super interesting look into what a psychopath is (it is technically not a real mental disorder) as well as a new perspective on the nature/nurture debate.

The second is called The Boat of a Million Years - a scifi novel about human individuals who are born randomly but live forever, and their journeys from well before 0 AD to some unknown date in the future.  A very interesting perspective on many historical events from someone who has lived for thousands of years

  10. Nah its not really worth it. Especially since, last i heard, you dont even play the game anyway. If that is still true then you wouldnt even know a pain that the grinding in this game really is.

I do, actually, play the game.  And I'm quite familiar with grinding and how annoying it is, and I by no means think that the current system is perfect.  Furthermore, what you consider 'worth it' isn't really relevant, and the grinding now is not nearly as bad as what it was when I was most highly active, or even in the true oldfag days of september or earlier

While I never liked bikemmo, the current system make me feel like Kyu and Desu are baby sitting me. Now instead of seeing a bunch of people furiously biking left to right on island 4 you see 50 people standing and occationally moving or fishing to not be flagged as "afk." I don't think the new system promotes "gameplay" The majority of people grab their egg, buy their flags, run from 5 encounters and sit.

This, however, I don't think is a problem with breeding - it is a structural problem with PokeMMO that has existed for a long time.  Frankly, there isn't really that much to do in PokeMMO - you have 'encountering pokemon' (hunting, breeding, ev training, leveling), you have 'pvp interactions' , you have gambling and you have chatting.  No one considers gambling to be viable gameplay, so we are essentially left with three basic options of playing.  Lacking diversity is a huge problem in PokeMMO, and why people get bored.  With more content, more things to do that are worth doing I think people will spend time doing those things instead of being afk while waiting for their egg to hatch.

and now, srs, I'm done posting on this here (inb4 someone says something that I very strongly feel the need to reply to)

  11. I wasnt pitching an idea, nor was i trying to influence the devs. And there was nothing wrong with afk w8ing for eggs in bikemmo. Its not like the fact that there was something you can do in this game while afk was actually hurting the game. It actually helped it bc it made breed grinding less frustrating. And im not the only one who thinks this.

It hurts the game because it means that:

You. Are. Not. Playing. The. Game.

You're. Watching. TV. While. Holding. Down. Buttons.

Please explain to me why any situation where this is true should not be a cause for alarm?  Furthermore, 'It actually helped it bc it made breed grinding less frustrating. And im not the only one who thinks this.' could not be less true.  The fact that you and others feel this way doesn't make it true - it just means that you're players, not developers.  And as it turns out, more often than not players are stupid and have no idea what is good for the game - this is one of those times. This is because you are thinking in terms of 'rabble rabble rabble I demand easy, afkable gameplay because I don't want to actually play the game' and not in terms of 'What makes this game something that people have to pay attention to (and even more so, want to pay attention to)?'

A game that you watch TV instead of focusing is hardly a good game.

Regardless, this is rather off topic and if you'd like to continue this discussion we can do so in an on-topic thread or via PMs.

  12. -.- I didnt pitch an idea, i told my preference of game play style. And how does having to prove you are not afk whle hatching eggs not promote botting?

How does a gameplay system that does not require you to do literally anything but sit, wait, and occasionally press z a few times not promote botting?

While both are bottable, one is significantly worse (Hint - its yours).  And regardless of whether or not you 'pitched an idea' it was a bad idea that will (I hope to God) never have any influence on the dev's decision making
