Ahh, I get level 100 after beating N and the Champion? Seems difficult but I'll manage

So, I'm playing in Unova and just beat the Elite 4, but for some reason my level cap is still 56. I didn't beat N, I just exited the team Plasma Castle as soon I found the guy. Am I supposed to beat N first? I can't challenge the E4 anymore.

I defeated the Elite 4 in Unova, but I also exited the Team Plasma tower because I need to grind some more. But for some reason, my level cap is still 56 and I also can't fight the Elite 4 anymore. Was this intentional, or an actual bug?
