Hydreigon not listening to my orders AFTER 8th gym?

So, basically - as the title says- I traded myself a hydreigon and it is level 64 right now. For some odd reason I cannot use it since it doesn't listen to my orders and keeps killing itself. And yes, I've done enough gyms, I'm in the elite four right now and it still doesn't listen to me. Anyone know how to fix this problem or is this a bug in the game? (I'm playing the Fire Red btw)
