1. It's chaos right now, and Boston has shut down most vectors of communication to stop any more remote detonation. I don't think we'll have any reliable info until the dust settles.

    Reddit

I prefer 4chan, of course. Look at /vp/ and r/pokemon and you'll know why. That said, I think Reddit's salvageable. Much like people were saying in the 4chan thread, it depends on where in the site you go. It's necessary to unsubscribe to almost all of the default stuff, otherwise, meems and circlejerks ahoy. The format leads to some horrific stuff, edgy ratheists probably being the worst of it. But, I would contend that the format works just fine for places like /r/AskHistorians. Good academic-style writing floats to the top, and the terrific mod team deletes drivel quickly and efficiently. You see a bit of repetition in terms of the questions being asked, but I can get over that.

  5.
You can be named "Phaggot" for all I care. I have no business remembering the names of nobodies. The staff have clearly seen the thread since they cited what exactly was getting posted in here.
Being needlessly belligerent to each other is irrelevant to this discussion. Lay off, or take it to PMs, both of you.
  6.
One of these things does not actually involve a pokemon. Leveling up a pokemon. Catching a pokemon. "Playing" a slot machine. Can you guess which one it is?
protip: the correct answer rewards you with this

7. Honestly, the fact that I'd have to spend 20 hours pressing the Z button to remain competitive is the main reason I don't play PokeMMO anymore (well, that and the fact that my internet is practically powered by a hand crank). There's only so much carpal tunnel I'm willing to endure for the sake of something ostensibly "fun." EVing and IV searching may be 'grinding,' but at least it's playing Pokemon, which is, y'know, what I came here to do. As for Munya and the others who have already put in their time at the GC, I have total respect and sympathy. You have way more balls and/or autism than me. But I beg of you, don't put the rest of us through a punishment befitting a Greek myth just because you've already suffered it.

  10. I'm kinda excited. If it's a new Pokemon, and not just a new form, we may get an expansion of that sparse, but actually really well done Mewtwo storyline from the Gen 1 games. It looks only alright to me, but I think that's mostly because I'm comparing it to what I think is one of Pokemon's best designs. On a side note, I continue to be impressed by the game's animation style. I know that I'll eventually turn off battle animations to speed things up, but with how cinematic it all looks, I can see myself keeping it on for much longer than usual.
  11. ^ Word. If I start thinking storyline things, should there be a general framework? Or are we in a more sandbox stage?
  12. I might be interested in helping with the story and such. I have XP and Pokemon Essentials, but haven't done more than fiddle with them. Regardless, good luck with it, looking forward to seeing how it progresses!
Also, I am so down with Professor Hemlock
13. Yeah, episode one was just getting everyone back on track. Hopefully we'll see some plot soon; the third book was, in a lot of ways, the peak of the series. That being said, they're apparently only doing the first half of the book this season, soooo...
seriously lotta spoilers
not for all you non-book reading scrubs
What are they even going to include this season? Pretty much everything interesting happens in the second half. My guess is that it'll end with the Red Wedding, since that was closer to the halfway point, which will still be pretty clutch. But I doubt we'll get to, say, Tyrion going apeshit murdery. Speaking of which, I'm really curious to see if they go whole hog with it; Tyrion's been presented as a much gentler, positive character than he was in the books (partly just cause it's hard not to like Dinklage), so it'll be pretty jarring for all the Tyrion fanbois.

15. Honestly, the only threatening thing North Korea can do would be to collapse. On the one hand, yay, no more North Korea. On the other hand, international free-for-all for who can find their nuclear weapons first amidst the resulting chaos. That free-for-all could include a lot of not-so-friendly factions, including: -Belligerent NK loyalists -Terrorist groups -Who the fuck knows

    Drugs

A Former Crack Dealer on the Economics of Drugs The story doesn't really tread any new ground, but it's amusing, and covers most of the relevant issues. Black market drugs absolutely end up funding all sorts of violent crime. A fairly well-documented example of this is that worldwide opiate trade is a primary source of revenue for Muslim extremist terrorist cells, including, notably, the Taliban. Legalizing and heavily regulating all drugs may have some nasty side effects, depending on the regulations. But it cannot be worse than the US's current drug policy shit-show, what with our huge incarceration economy and etc. I can't really speak for other countries, though. On a less serious note, smoking weed on a Seattle sidewalk with police officers rolling by, not giving a fuck, is one of the purest forms of bliss I've ever experienced.
  18. Technological advancement has always struck me as a weak argument for war. It's pretty difficult to dispute that war has sped up certain inventions, but it's nearly impossible to say by how much. Think Newton and Leibniz both inventing calculus. Computers may not have come as quickly without Turing's Enigma Machine, for instance, but for all we know, similar developments would've cropped up mere months later. Wars do stimulate the economy (with exceptions). Even the most resolute of Hayekfags would agree that the military-industrial complex isn't just a catchphrase. However, it is important to note that we've been using the USA in WWI/WWII as the only example here, which notably had no industrial centers destroyed or occupied over the course of either war. It's hard to argue that WWII bolstered the economies of, say, Hamburg or Dresden. Honestly, off the top of my head, the only war I can wholly see as justified was the European theatre of WWII. Assassinating Hitler probably wouldn't have done much good without destabilizing his military and government; Nazism was a cultural phenomenon, no matter how much we'd like to think of it as a cult of personality. Himmler would've gone right on gassing Jews and the empire would've kept expanding, with another charismatic state puppet taking Hitler's place. Japan was also doing some horrid things in China, so a conflict there was necessary - I have a lot of reservations about whether unconditional surrender was needed to secure a sufficient peace, though.
Jesus, you went to Williams? That's literally in the boonies. I'm out east and I couldnt imagine living past Springfield.
Yeah. Our town's so small, we don't even have a grocery store. It's at least three hours to get to Boston or NY, which quickly shattered my lofty notions of an east coast all neatly scrunched together.

School: Williams College in Massachusetts (though studying abroad at Stockholm School of Economics right now) Year: 3 Subjects: Studied neuro for a while, but now I'm sticking with literature. Since I'll be working unpaid internships for the next five to ten years anyway, I might as well enjoy my studies now.
Also, Dahaka and others: you are tops in my book for cleansing OT's putrefying wounds
22. I think the Sylph thing is accurate, seeing as the japanese name is Ninfia - Nymph. However, Nymphs have nothing to do with air or flying, often associated with water. However, both are fairies, which is a big ol' neon flashing Light-type sign to me. gogogo team light type baseless theorycraft Btw, pretty sure the second move it uses is trump card
  23.
Most people on Reddit, /v/ and /vp/ agree that it's most likely a flying type evolution.
oh, in that case, I will gladly defer to their ageless wisdom, those scions of the tubes Seriously, I see nothing at all that suggests an aerial theme. It doesn't even remotely look like it could be airborne.
  24. Honestly, that Eeveelution is the biggest suggestion I've seen that Light typing is more than a rumor. None of the current typings make sense, and the Eeveelutions have never been big on thematic subtlety. If it was flying, it would have hermes wings all over it or something, and fighting type would have a much clearer motif as well.
