  5. This pretty much sums up how I feel about it 100%.
  6. And Tranz pls dont take that like a shot at you, or how yall choose to do things. I personally just LOVE competition and love to play against great players. The way things are now I get a chance to do that twice a month or so because I'm either at work during the events I want to take part in or there simply just not a lot of them. On top of that, nobody is willing to just play for fun and the thrill of the fight unless they are getting something out of it. I just want to try and give people the best of both worlds and I know I'm not the only one that feels this way.
  7. Yea, I just wanted to grab peoples attention with the title. I disagree that the the term competitive scene is exclusive only to officials. There was a time where you couldn't pull together enough staff members to even host more than 2 a month if any at all and in that time the competitive scene was the sponts and unofficials hosted largely by community members, not staff. Just because it doesnt have the staff stamp of approval doesnt mean it isnt relevant. If anything the community taking ownership of the competitive scene seems more vital to me than staff held events simply because there are more of us than there are of you and we have the ability to host more events on a more regular basis. Regardless of whether or not there is enough staff to host officials, there will always be enough community members to do so. If we had some staff support for these tourneys we would have better turn out and an over all more healthy competitive scene. Its already been rejected because you say you cant pick and choose who gets backed and who doesn't, you also have to be thoughtful about what prizes you give out and how many. That's understandable even If I don't agree that you cant pick and choose who to back, you did exactly that when putting together a tier council. Saying that Unofficials dont fall under the term competitive scene is just.. I dont even have a word. Anyone who actually played during that time will tell you how much more healthy the actual competition and competitive nature of the community was. That statement is just a result of how out of touch with the community staff was at the time. (things are much better now on that front and its appreciated) There are a lot of officials for now; that doesn't mean there always will be, we've been there before. We as a community need to take ownership of this aspect of the game and make it better. Whether you feel responsible for competitive play or not, this was directed to the community its self and wasn't really directed towards staff. That being said, any suggestions on how we can make community held events better is welcome.
  8. The problem with the big teams is that they have enough members to test internally and so they dont need the sponts and unofficials to test their new builds and such. Those of us who liked playing and hosting these tourneys cant get enough people to show up to fill a bracket or play. Last tourney I was going to host had like 16 sign-ups, zero people showed. Which I dont blame solely on there being such large teams but its a part of it. People just arent playing for fun.
  9. This isn't complaining, like Thinkie said, we are identifying a problem and working towards a solution. Id love to just shut up and play the game, but unfortunately I cant find anyone to play me for shits and giggles that actually knows what they're doing, so If you aren't going to be a part of the solution feel free to leave my thread, thanks. I have and unless you're giving out just insane prizes you cant do it on a regular basis. People just wont risk revealing sets for a few hundred k anymore which is asinine. Dont run the same team every time you play, problem solved(another point Im pretty sure ThinkNice pointed out before)
  10. Can you get on TS, ive been flirting with an idea, but it would be a pain in the ass to type out and I would need a bit of help to pull it all off.
  11. I see what youre saying forfi and I think I myself am kind of getting off topic. Instead of "oh well this is what I did, or this is what we did", How can we as a community make the competitive scene more fun for the Individual, not just for the team because really there is only one tourney a month where your team tag matters and its the last Saturday of every month. Not that I don't enjoy when my teammates have success but when it comes down to it, you dont make a name for yourself because of your team tag.
  12. I ran out of likes so you get a quote. I see your point and I think youre right. The thing is how did we build the relationships? By playing each other, talking to each other on TS and just getting to know each other. It takes minimal effort. The amount of time a team has been a team isn't relevant at all. (pls dont take this the wrong way Bong or Optic) Bong and Optic have been around forever and they aren't exactly competitive meccas, They've had good players, but they're not exactly known as dominant teams or super competitive. What matters is how a team is built and the premise you build your team around, which our teams are similar in the approach to an extent. That is how I was comparing, obviously we haven't been around long enough to show sustained success, but we have shown we can hang in the short time we've been together and now we just have to build on what we have accomplished. Edit: But to tie the above into the point of the thread, ANYONE can do it. its just a matter of doing it. We don't all have to be in well known teams, like JJ said, we can make names for ourselves without leaching off of others success. I have all the respect in the world for the things the likes of LYLE, PoAu and AW have done, but people need to realize you don't have to be in those teams to immolate that success.
  13. I can see your point and I think that any team who's main goal is competitive success is going to have some stipulations similar to what you pointed out. Personally my approach to recruiting has been this, Do you have a usable team ready to play? Do you have to be the greatest player in game? No. Do I have to know who you are? No. Khryon and Kev are examples of this, I had no clue who they were before they joined. I didnt know Mauru either, I just happen to ask him to join and he obliged. Does your personality mesh well with the current members? I agree that the social aspect of the game is important as well, I enjoy building friendships, but I had a hard time doing that in a larger team, it felt cliquey and I didnt feel like a teammate, I felt like just another guy in the team. Are you actually wanting to play the game? If you want to just be in a team to be in a team, my team probably isn't for you. We only recruit people who crave that competition and want to play and get better. Initiative isnt in our control, we cant make people too lazy to do the work play. But we have control over showing up to tourneys when they pop up, official or not. Whether the prize is awesome or not. We can encourage players in our teams who dont get to play in team tourney or have bad luck getting into officials or arent involved in PSL to participate in the smaller tourneys to hone their skills. Its just little things like that, that I feel goes a long way in bettering the overall competitive nature of the community.
  14. The whole reason I founded CBII and took on that namesake is because of what they stand for. It meant a lot to me to be a part of that team and learn from those guys. I liked that not just anyone who wanted in was allowed, we had to mesh, there was a process and I loved that everyone in the team played a role. As members of that team we had purpose. Ive been in multiple teams with a ton of members and you don't get that from them. I do breed to sell, but comp is expensive. I dont think that is really a problem, the playing for profit is. Whoever is getting a boner over having a lot of fake money or mis-colored pixels must have a sad real life(or just a lack of). I think that maybe a way to help PSL is limit the number of activity wins allowed by a player, if you cant find the time once a week to duel, you probably shouldnt be allowed to be a part of the league. Maybe make the managers release those players and pick up a new player from a free agent pool? IDK, but we as a community have to create more competition. Having a few officials a month with a limited number of spots available isn't going to cut it with how large the community is. If you want more quality competition , we have to create it. I understood what he was saying, it just wasn't 100% accurate. But like I said, what PoAu has lent out to people and hasnt isnt the point of the thread so it can be discussed privately.
  15. Its not just you, but lets keep on topic. We can carry on that convo in private if needed.
  16. Ive never had any issues getting what I needed from anyone. I think I would know better seeing as I was the one borrowing.
  17. As someone not in those teams I can tell you there isnt a large differential in the benefits. Ive borrowed breeders, comps and things from players in PoAu, LYLE, CiX and others.
  18. First off, never be intimidated. The best way to learn is by playing the best. As far as hosting goes, its almost pointless at this point, its damn near impossible to get people to sign up and harder to get them to show because of paranoia or because they don't like the prize. We are forgetting the reason we duel, its for the love of the game. Anyone who plays competitively should be foaming at the mouth at the chance to go show how good they are.
  19. Just a few things I think are hurting the competitive community. Nobody duels for fun anymore. We cant duel anyone outside our teams because we worry about others writing down our move sets and team builds. So we don't have a decent duel outside a tournament anymore. What does this matter, we all run multiple teams and multiple builds of the same poke. During the course of a duel, we can usually figure out the builds anyway. I find this culture we've created to be a bit asinine and unnecessary. Unofficials and Sponts are dead. This goes hand in hand with my previous point. Whether the prize isnt good enough or you don't want to reveal sets and team builds there are multiple reasons people have stopped playing these and its a shame. We've taken for granted that these used to be all we had because of low number of staff members willing to host officials. These were great practice and more importantly they were fun and encouraged competition. The team tourney a 3-4 team show. We were allowed alt teams.. come on, really? I can see the benefits to being in a larger team, but how many of you in those teams are actually contributing to the success of it? I have friends in larger teams, we share breeders, talk builds and share advice. These benefits aren't exclusive to just being in those teams. What do you guys think about the points above and the over all state of competition in our community?
