The reason why the "staff is busy" is because only shu, Desu, and Darkshade are working on the update and the coding. the rest of the staff don't work on the updates, your comment is invalid and should learn stuff before you make posts. You can now go and continue sucking up to staff to prevent us from "walking over them" which we don't do.

  33. Just want to clear something up about my contest: This contest is here for a couple of reasons. First, I'm granting those with creative talent an outlet for that talent, an outlet that has been completely missing from the forums for a long time now (whether it be writing contests, art contests, etc.) Second, I'm giving the community a chance to read some of the really cool stories that fellow community members are able to come up with. This is here for people's enjoyment, whether it be those who enter, or those who just read along. Yes, there is a winner each week, and yes, there will be a master's invitational at the end with a large-scale entry. But at the end of the day, those two reasons are paramount. Why? Because it's my contest, and I said so. Thus, I won't be deducting points or disqualifying people for going over the word limit. The word limit is like a speed limit. You can go over it a little, but it's there to make sure the entries are reasonably long and don't put too much of a strain on the judges. Likewise, the entry deadline (Friday at 11:59 pm EDT) is also just a "guideline," as people will likely put off working on their entry until the last minute, or won't submit an entry at all, if I didn't set a deadline (Hell, this is how I functioned in college lel). Again, I certainly won't be disqualifying anyone who submits an entry 15 minutes late, 2 hours late, even a whole day late, if they truly worked hard on their entry and it is truly their best work. Why would I? It flies in the face of the 2 main reasons that this competition is here. Once again, the emphasis is that this is MY contest. If staff would like to host a writing contest, and strictly enforce the rules, they are more than welcome to. But for MY contest, I will be the one enforcing the rules (Unless something violates the rules of the PokeMMO forums...I'm looking at you, Senile and Jay). Thanks! :)

  34. Ok so Think is upset and Caracal is a badass, but nevertheless let's move on and get back to subject.... Keep the bans! Gimmick is a gimmick and utilizing the ban list to make an effective team only raises the challenge. Pokes are limited, so sure we'll see some of the same teams ran and sure matches will be decided by RNG, but who gives a nut? This looks like an awesome event and I'm stoked. Tournament staff have been doing a wonderful job lately, so keep it up.
I really wanted that Slowpoke
35. Fera week 2 GO
Cycling Road stretches on forever in front of us. Sweat drips down my face, but I don’t bother to wipe it away. I grit my teeth—I can’t believe how exhausted I am. Phii, my Espeon and constant companion, brushes her head against my legs. Supplies, I have to keep reminding myself. We need supplies. There’s nothing left to salvage from Fuchsia. The PokéMart is empty after our last raid; everything we have to our names easily fits in my bag. If we’re going to survive, we need to find food, healing items, clothing, and countless other necessities. The Celadon Department Store is our best option. A loud screech brings me back to the present, and I jump away from the noise, my fatigue temporarily forgotten. A Dodrio charges us, his three sets of eyes staring us down. Phii stares back, unflinching, and lifts the Pokémon into the air before throwing him back several yards. Enraged, the Dodrio rights himself immediately, glowing orbs forming inside each of his beaks. “Tri Attack—watch it Phii!” Phii easily dodges the beam, and another powerful Psychic leaves the bird in a crumpled heap. Phii returns to my side, breathing heavily. “Just a little farther,” I whisper to her. She’s exhausted too, but we keep moving. Finally, as the sun begins to set, the gate leading to Celadon comes into view. Two men in unmistakable gray uniforms lean against either side of the doorway. “Hold it right there,” one says with a sneer, walking towards us. The red R on his chest is more than enough to put me on edge, and Phii as well. I feel her tense at my feet. Team Rocket isn’t exactly honorable. It doesn’t surprise me that they’ve taken advantage of the chaos, using it to come out of hiding. My mind goes to the other five Poké Balls on my belt. We could easily force our way inside— “Fee to enter Celadon is a hundred thousand bucks,” the grunt barks, crossing his arms. “Pay up or turn back.” I blink at him. Paper money is completely worthless since the economy crashed, due to disastrous inflation. What he wants is next to nothing. I quickly rifle through my bag and drop my money pouch into the Rocket’s hand. No point in taking out the exact amount. What I have is more than enough, but it’s worthless to me. Everyone barters now. The Rocket doesn’t even bother to count it. “Go on in,” he says, still smirking. Phii bristles as we walk past him. Celadon is worse off than Fuchsia, though it’s less overgrown. The fountain is filled with trash, and every building has its windows smashed. The door to the Department Store is torn down, and one step inside tells me it’s already been looted. We only have one other shot—the Prize Exchange. With night falling, we easily sneak into the boarded-up building. Most of the prizes are useless to me. It’s the Mystery Boxes, I’m after—particularly Enigma Berries. If we grew some, we would have a small but reliable source of food. We find bunch of Max Elixirs, a few Lava Cookies, and a PP Max. I open the lid of the last box and stare, uncomprehending. It’s money, of all things. I count the neat little stacks. Ten thousand, one hundred thousand… It’s an even one hundred million dollars. This must have been one of the rarest prizes, but now it’s useless. I can’t eat cash. I can’t barter with cash. But the Rockets collect money, don’t they? ----- Minutes later, I find a trio of Rockets out on the street near the dilapidated Pokémon center. I hold up the Mystery Box for them to see. “Any of you up for a trade?” They ignore me, pulling out police batons, smirking. I’ve never asked Phii to attack a human, but she reacts immediately; the Rocket closest to me has his arm psychically ripped backwards. He falls to the ground, clutching his broken limb. “Drop everything,” I growl, “or you get the same.” Phii’s eyes glow ominously. The two remaining grunts obediently drop their weapons, visibly shaken. I drop the Mystery Box, filled to the brim with cash. “You must have a store of supplies—food, healing, other necessities? I’ll trade you some for all of this.” I can see the Rockets’ interest peaking. “Shit yeah,” one agrees. “We can do that.” “I want plenty of Antidotes,” I add, idly tracing the scar on my forearm. 36. Alrighty, I actually got my entry done earlier this week. Not sure if I like how I left it so this might be a WIP, but I think I'm probably gonna just leave it. Also, I decided to make this is kind of a continuation of my week 1 story just to see if I could pull it off and it worked for what I wanted to go with
After several failed attempts of trying to become rich, I found myself in Celadon City. The journey from Fuchsia to Celadon was rough, but along the way I managed to earn a decent amount of cash from the various trainers I encountered. "You know Quag, this could be our chance to become rich here in Celadon. I heard they have these Mystery boxes," I began. Quagsire stared at me with his beady, black eyes and his mouth wide open. "And these boxes may have rare prizes in them. I heard even some of them have money!" Quagsire croaked happily and threw his arms into the air as I said the word money. A chuckled escaped my throat and I patted his head. "That's the spirit Quag! Let's go get us some money and become rich!" Without hesitation, I threw open the door to my hotel room and trotted down the hallway, Quagsire waddling behind me, trying to keep up. I hurried to the front door and pushed it open, allowing the sunlight to blind me for moment before I stepped outside. The city was bustling with life or as much as there was these days. People hurried in and out of the department store and disappeared off down the street. I watched them for a moment, paying no attention to Quagsire as he ran off ahead of me. "Quag! Quag!" I heard him call once he was half way down the street. I snapped back to reality and ran after him, making my way to the Game Corner. I pulled open the door once we arrived and stepped inside. "Hello there, are you here to purchase one of our many prizes?" the man behind the counter asked. I nodded my head and walked over to the counter, eyeing all the prizes on along the back wall. "I would like a Mystery box," I finally said. The man pulled down a box from one of the shelves and set it in front of me and I handed over all the money I had made on my way here. "Thanks," I mumbled. My heart began to race once I picked up the box and hurried outside. This was the moment of truth. My fingers shook as I tore open the box. My eyes grew wide as I saw the stacks of money inside. "We're rich Quag!" The things I could do with this money was endless, but one particular idea stuck out in my mind. A smirk crossed my face as I looked down at Quagsire, but I only received a derpy smile in return. "Time to take over this region," I said lowly. I turned toward the Casino and walked inside, making my way to the back of the room. I pulled up the poster that promoted Team Rocket and I pressed the button below it, causing the floor to slide open and uncover a hidden stair case. My legs began to shake in excitement as I descended down into the unknown. This was my chance to get exactly what I had always dreamed of. As I entered the room below, several heads turned. "We have an intruder!" one shouted. A few grunts came running to challenge me and I growled, handing the box of money to Quagsire before grabbing a pokeball from my belt. "Pikachu, thunerbolt these grunts!" I shouted as I released the ball. The small, yellow rodent flew out of her ball and allowed her cheeks to spark before letting out her electric attack, taking out the grunts. More grunts appeared from the elevator and they froze when they saw their fallen comrades. "I suggest you take me to your boss, now," I said. "Right this way," a young woman said. She gestured me forward and I followed with Quagsire and Pikachu close by. After several flights of stairs, she finally stopped. "Giovanni is right in here. I warn you he won't be pleased that he has a visitor," she said. I grunted, "yeah, yeah. He'll suck it up when I show him what I have." She nodded curtly and opened the door, allowing me to enter Giovanni's office. Giovanni spun around in his chair and looked toward me with snake like eyes. "What do you want?" he hissed. "I have come to join Team Rocket on one condition," I started. My gaze met his and I motioned Quagsire forward to set the money on his desk. "I'll give you this money, but you put me in charge."
Word Count: 750

  37. Title not available.
Growing up in Celadon as a middle class white boy may have been the best thing that could have happened to a kid, or so you would think. My parents never game me money for anything. "Dad I need money to buy comps and fuck (B)itches" "Get your own money (f)gt, I didn't sell your sister for a Shiny Tangela so I could pay for you to get 1st rounded scrubs like Gunthug and Strider(TJ)" "Bu-bu-bu but daddddddddddd" Now, naturally, I was forced to find my own money. I'd heard rumors of the Senile man from Fushia winning a fortune from Mystery Boxes. I knew what I had to do. I rented my room out to a visiting cattle salesman by the name of SfSkump. He needed a place to stay and I needed money. One months rent was more than enough I suppose. This month flew by rather fast and before I knew it, Skump was gone and I had my money, much more than he owed. Although... he did leave a note mentioning some rather interesting things he did in my room while I was out of the house. God damn (S)kanks and their fingers, I swear to God. Anyway, you guys can guess what I did with my money. COCAINE! Thankfully, Skump had payed me extra, leaving me with just enough for both my cocaine and my mystery box. I walk on down to the Game Corner and buy myself a lovely Mystery Box. Upon opening the box I am nearly suffocated. Money. Everywhere. This is fantastic, this is what I dreamed of, this is why I let that skunk finger that cattle salesman in my room. Never mind that! I'm fucking rich now! The comps I could buy, the skills I could acquire. This could only set the wheels in motion. Thinking to myself, I soon realize something. Why stop here? I could have more money. But how? A business? Yes of course! Years have passed, I've grown to realize… I hate my job. My business is flourishing but, I just can't stand my co-workers. The first of the three vile human beings is an absolutely beautiful woman. 10/10 would fuck again my friend. Only issue was, she was dumb as a rock. I have a low tolerance for stupidity but can not bring my self to fire her. The second is the complete opposite. Not too great looking but Jesus tap-dancing Christ, she is smart as can be. Intelligence unparalleled, a great worker but, her looks are just not up to par with my standards. Last and certainly least we have my only male co-worker. This man is a direct descendant of what could only be hippies. He talks as though he is from the 80's and certainly dresses the part. To top it all off, he always brings his god damn dog to work with him! Now this normally would not be a problem for your average Employer(lol) but, I have to sit in the mystery machine with these fucks for hours on end. I'm sick of it.
39. Hello everyone! This is the first instatement of a "PokeMMO Development Blog". This is intended to be monthly or bi-monthly, and in the future, will contain concepts we are working on or have interest in working on. As there have been around 5 months of development with not a lot of indication of what we're doing, there's quite a bit to talk about. As has been said previously on our Forums, this update is primarily focused on handling our Kanto implementation's large amount of issues and preparing for our Emerald release later this year. Kanto Mechanics Polishing One of the main challenges in porting a single-player game to a multiplayer environment is reworking single-player-focused mechanics in order to create a sustainable gameplay experienced required for an MMORPG. This patch focuses on some of the worst offenders which would require players to create alternative characters for basic NPC functionality. Move Tutors Move tutors have always been a problem with old characters due to sometimes providing exclusive moves that can not be renewed except by trading to a new character. We've alleviated this by requiring in-game consumables for all Move Tutors and having them be able to be used unlimited times. Other regions' tutors have also been a subject of discussion, with us deciding to implement certain NPCs in the latter Sevii Isles areas which provide move tutor functionality normally exclusive to other regions. VS Seeker Rebalancing VS Seeker trainers have long been a source for extremely easy money gain due to the level disparities between an NPC and a normal player after completing the storyline. While this was acceptable in a single player game, it is not here. Rematch trainers' parties will now automatically scale to a level more appropriate to your character's progression, i.e. rematching a trainer with 8 badges will have you endure a harder match than that of a player with 1 badge. Money gain does not scale up from normal rematch rates, but EXP gain does, helping alleviate EXP grind woes of endgame players looking to build new parties. Dynamic Weather and Environmental Effects While this is not an especially large feature, dynamic weather is one of the many things that help a game's world feel more alive. It will now rain occasionally in the overworld, with each Island having different weather. Certain caves will now have thick fog effects. Certain environmental animations have been added as well, such as sand and beach effects. Direct Item Trading Direct item trading has been one of the primary limitations of the game's item-based economy, requiring you to attach an item to a party member before trading. This update alleviates this issue, with stacks of items being able to be traded directly. Artificial Intelligence Artificial intelligence has been a huge hurdle in creating difficulty in PvE content. The sheer complexity of the game makes creating meaningful AI a very difficult task, making this one of the main reasons why the current update cycle has been extended so far. With this, we will be introducing AI which: Uses attacking moves effectively Uses buffing moves effectively Swaps at appropriate times Choosing which party member to send out at appropriate times Utility moves are unlikely to be included with this update, but will be addressed in the future. This update provides us the ability to continue to create and tweak formulae which decide how NPCs react to player actions in real time. Z-Axis Support The Z-Axis is not a very utilized function in FireRed, primarily because it is a remake of an even older game. Proper Z-Axis support only fixes visual issues in Kanto (e.g. NPC rendering in the Fanclub, and certain tiles in caves) but is one of the larger server/client pre-requisites of our future Emerald preparation. Client Improvements Performance Improvements Memory management has been one of our worst issues, with various memory leaks in the rendering code causing symptoms like client crashing, visual texture bugs, and the GUI disappearing. Much of our time within the past few months has been spent working towards lowering the client's memory footprint and optimizing our existing systems. We've gone through, gutted most of our rendering code, and optimized it to the point where: The worst memory leaks have been resolved, where memory in use will no longer increase significantly over a player's session. This allows players to more reliably manage their memory usage via PokeMMO.l4j.ini, having the highest performance impact on very low-end systems with <768MB of RAM. Internal memory management has been heavily optimized, where internal garbage collection functions no longer run very often (causing lag spikes on extremely low-end systems). Memory management improvements also mean the removal of legacy code. This includes legacy GBA character colors from 2012, which will now all show as a standard sprite until custom Trainer Shots are created. While much of the optimizations are focused on memory management, small framerate-impacting optimizations have been done as well. Border rendering code has been improved to where borders will have very little to no impact on client performance. This primarily affected clients with unlocked zoom levels (a debug function), but had a performance impact for regular players where large amounts of border tiles were shown. Move Animation-related crashes have also plagued many of our players, but only largely began to be reported when commonly used moves' animations were implemented. This set of issues was commonly known as the "Swords Dance bug" but applied to every move animation. We have fixed many issues with move animations which would cause crashes on low-end systems during animation rendering. Many other crashes have been resolved as well, such as a very rare crash which could cause a player moving through a connection when performing certain actions to crash their clients. Most of the above issues do not affect a lot of players, but smaller memory footprints allow us to both support older desktop/laptop systems and reduce system impact for our future Android release. Extended Controller Support 3rd-party controller support has been one of the main features we have wanted to work on for the past few years. Our last update included basic controller support through the game client, but various GUI design flaws prevented us from a full implementation. With this update, we will be introducing controller support for all in-game GUIs except for the Chat and Settings functions as well as a wider array of controllers being detected. Community Suggestions and Other General Improvements Several small community suggestions have been implemented since our last patch including: Better shiny indicators for the "drag to chat" function. https://forums.pokemmo.eu/index.php?/topic/33216-make-shiny-pokemon-obvious-drag-and-drop/ Improving the interface for breeding. https://forums.pokemmo.eu/index.php?/topic/35943-show-more-information-when-retrieving-pokemon-from-the-daycare/ Displaying your own name for screenshot purposes. https://forums.pokemmo.eu/index.php?/topic/35999-option-to-display-character-name-and-team-tag-above-own-character/ Some other small improvements that don't quite fit anywhere else include: The Hidden Power diviner interface has been improved. After paying this NPC, your party member's Summary window will now display its Hidden Power typing to yourself and other players. Summary windows will no longer require you to move them to see, at a glance, how many Summary windows you have open at a time. Battle sprites will now render behind Substitute sprites, to more clearly indicate what you are facing in the case of things like Baton Pass. Implementation of Borderless Window Mode, allowing players to perform other tasks more easily while playing PokeMMO in a fullscreen setup. Various small textures have been improved to more suitably fit PokeMMO. Trainer Tower and Battle Points Trainer Tower The Trainer Tower was one of the least utilized features in FireRed's international version. Instead of implementing the cut-down FR USA version of the Trainer Tower, we have taken the effort to manually compile all information from the original FireRed JP release. This provides us with a robust PvE experience where players confront 9 levels of various battles, with each player receiving their own dynamically built instance. Battle Points Battle Points are a new currency obtained through the Trainer Tower. This currency allows you to purchase high-end consumables and can be used to purchase certain Event Moves for your party. In the future, these will be acquirable through PvP Matchmaking. We did not feel that Matchmaking was currently in a state that would allow us to tie rewards to its functionality. PvP Improvements PvP Balancing Many further generation move or battle mechanics changes have been backported to PokeMMO for balancing purposes. These include: Critical Hit rebalancing, including Critical Hit damage multiplications, chance scalings, stage increases for high crit-ratio skills, base powers for high crit-ratio skills. Sitrus Berries have been changed to be more appropriate for Little Cup-type tournaments (changing their HP to percentage scaling instead of flat HP increases.) Many Accuracy/Base Power/PP-related changes have been backported to apply to commonly used skills. End of Turn effects have been standardized to an intentional order. Additionally, various move-related bugs that were ported from FireRed have been removed (e.g. Overheat causing Contact). A full list of balancing changes is not present here, but will be available during the patch notes. Tournament Mode Improvements Several improvements related to Tournament Mode are slated for this update, including: Inclusion of Tiering in duels. This allows players to choose which ruleset they would like to play in a Tournament Mode duel. Match durations will now have an option to be capped at 45 minutes. This is decided on duel start. Public Test Server and Future Development Plans Public Test Server The Public Test Server has been mentioned on the forums over the past few weeks as a way to preview upcoming content and have players find the worst issues in it. This server will run the latest concepts created by us, and will be considered unstable. The Public Test Server is not a replacement for the Live Server. It will have the following restrictions set in place to minimize impact on the Live Server during testing periods: The PTS will only be available during certain times, announced prior to bringing it online. This will be focused primarily on weekends in order to ensure the highest number of testers possible. This server will have a limited amount of player slots allocated to free accounts. Accounts with active Donator Status will be able to bypass queue restrictions. The PTS will provide certain debug tools ("cheat codes") required for the test at hand. These will vary depending on what is being tested. Character progress on the PTS will be removed regularly. This server will begin seeing usage a few weeks after we deploy our next update. Further details on how to access the public test server and the content changes between Live and PTS will be released shortly before it starts being used. Future Development Plans We have several sub-projects in the works which are intending to see release by the end of the year. Some of them are: Character customization will see a major overhaul, including implementation of Trainer Shot sprites (shown in the Trainer Card). The PokeMMO Client GUI is being analyzed for both functionality and design improvements. It currently suffers from an issue known as "programmer's graphics". Our second region is planed to be feature-complete by the end of 2014, with Emerald used as a base. Some further details about integration with FireRed may be seen at https://forums.pokemmo.eu/index.php?/topic/42931-the-new-region-thread/?p=830926 Our first Android client implementation is planning to see its first public release in late 2014. This update is slated to be deployed shortly after Artificial Intelligence's first rendition has been completed. This is projected to be towards the middle of July. Thank you for your patience.

Three things: - The ability to blacklist specific people from using your team box. - Borrowed Pokemon can simply be marked with a "borrowed" status, similar to the shiny star and the Pokerus icon (Probably the most resource-friendly way of applying these restrictions). - Pokemon with the borrowed status need to be unreleasable.

  43. This thread is not for feedback purposes. User feedback during the Alpha goes in the Suggestions Box. This thread does not document PokeMMO-only related implementations, such as the chat feature, visual enhancements by different rom files, PvP matchmaking, or other custom features. Features Berries EV reducing berries' functionality has been borrowed from Emerald. A list of berries and their associated EV reduction effects can be found at http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Berry#List_of_Berries_2 Held Items Light Ball's functionality has been borrowed from Generation IV-VI. This means it doubles both the Attack and Special Attack of Pikachu. Breeding A complete list of breeding mechanics disclosure may be found at https://forums.pokemmo.eu/index.php?/topic/32400-pokemmo-breeding-mechanics-1013-update/ To summarise: Egg contents spawn at level 1 instead of level 5. Egg hatching difficulty has been rebalanced to be more comparable to the difficulty required to acquire pokémon in the wild. Egg hatching has been reworked to require active play instead of being based on step count. Egg production is based on time instead of step count. IV inheritance mechanics have been rebalanced to be more dependent on the parents' statpool and the player's choices of parents. Move inheritance has been buffed to include Generations II-V movepools. Nature inheritance mechanics have been capped at a 40% chance to pass. Daycare Players may choose whether or not their pokémon will gain EXP in the Daycare, now. Elite Four The Elite Four have a cooldown of 6 real hours before players may rebattle them, regardless of whether they won or lost. Players who are on cooldown will receive a message stating that an Elite 4 member is missing. The Elite Four's monetary payouts have been removed.
